Whether you’re a lifelong player or returning to your instrument after a break, we’d love to hear from you.
What to Expect
-
A friendly, inclusive, multigenerational musical community
-
Weekly rehearsals in Frankston
-
A diverse mix of classical, contemporary, and Australian repertoire
-
Support from experienced musicians and section leaders
-
Opportunities to perform in concerts throughout the year
Prospective Strings
FSO's string sections are not auditioned. Because of the size of our string sections and the depth of experience among current players, we recommend a playing level of around AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent to ensure you can enjoy the repertoire comfortably. Prospective string players are warmly invited to attend a trial rehearsal, meet the orchestra, and see if FSO is the right fit. Simply submit an expression of interest and we’ll organise a time for you to join us.
Prospective Winds, Brass, Percussion
Our woodwind, brass, and percussion sections are smaller and work with more exposed repertoire, so a higher performance standard is required for these positions. Auditions may be required, depending on section needs and the number of applicants. We encourage you to submit an expression of interest so we can advise you of any current or upcoming openings.
Current Openings
We welcome enquiries for all sections, and are especially seeking:
Violin Viola Cello French Horn Double Bass Harp
If your instrument isn’t listed, please still get in touch - vacancies change throughout the year.
